Household Health and Harmony is happy to be able to offer online and in-person* classes designed to increase your own understanding and ability to parent no matter where you currently are in your family journey. Our classes have the ability to be coupled with, or designed alongside, our parent coaching program with the ultimate goal of equipping families with the skills and resources to be successful outside of the court or other interventions.
*please note that in-person classes are currently only offered in parts of Tennessee, Virginia and/or North Carolina. Contact householdhealthandharmony@gmail.com to see if your location is within our coverage area.
Our Parenting Basics course is an overview of general parenting skills, blended with personal feedback aimed at addressing present situations and equipping the family with the continued competence and confidence needed to face future concerns. Parenting Basics is a 4 hour course, with optional additional hours, as needed or ordered by the court. Completion of this course is designed to fulfill the parent education requirement so often ordered or required by family courts in a way that is cost-effective for the family, without cutting away any of the crucial information that can be lost in online modules. Our course is one-on-one, always, with a qualified educator who will work to address, not only the needs of your specific situation but also the overall health of your family as a unit.
Our Coparenting Communication course combines the parenting skills taught in Parenting Basics with additional training on communication, conflict resolution and mediation to address the unique obstacles faced by parents who share love for a child, while not living under the same roof. Our instructors are trained in up-to-date methods of both co-parenting and parallel parenting, with the ultimate goal of utilizing this course time to develop a workable co-parenting agreement that the family can begin using immediately. Families who are facing custody changes, reunification, or even just navigating changing parent dynamics, are encouraged to reach out to see if this course could be a good fit for you. This course can also meet court or state requirements pertaining to family education and parenting classes but does not (yet!) replace the legal requirement within some states to meet for mediation prior to custody hearings.
Our Diginity after Domestic Violence course specifically aims to support targeted parents who have survived, or are attempting to flee, domestic violence. Targeted parents are typically the recipient of the violence and may have experienced physical, emotional, sexual or financial abuse. Nicole Clausen, our primary parenting educator, has worked in the field of domestic violence advocacy for over a decade and has experience supporting parents of any gender, children of all ages, and families within a vast array of cultures as they work to rebuild. Ms. Clausen also has provided expert testimony in the family court system regarding the impact of domestic violence on children and their development.
At present, we are developing a 4th course program: Parenting The Parent. While still currently in development, Parenting The Parent will aim to serve the ever-growing population of parents who are working actively to provide their children with a drastically different childhood than they themselves experienced. The idea of breaking generational cycles of abuse and disconnect is not new, but the goal of Household Health and Harmony is to develop a user-friendly guide for parents as they navigate their own trauma and external barriers, allowing them to develop parenting skills in a way they can feel proud and secure in, with full understanding of their identifies and autonomy in adulthood. If you feel your family or yourself could benefit from this type of education and coaching, please contact us directly to find out more on how to join our pilot program. parent classes parent education court ordered parenting classes parenting assessment parent dcs classes
